Cafe Beda

Not much to look at, the bar serves the strongest drinks in the quadrant. If you're in the market for a custom ship mod or parts, there is a thriving market in its dank corners. Always be prepared to pay in wet ceds; men should never wager with the regulars no matter how convinced they are they can win.

Camaar

Bathed in perpetual light from at least one of the desert planet's three suns, Camaar is a harsh, blistering world hotter than Kenzix's final Tyheend concert. More remarkable than the unbearable heat is the complex ecosystem the planet sustains, a highly-adapted collection of fauna and flora that--no, on second thought the unbearable heat is more remarkable.

Canary Park

Canary Park is a large park benefiting the residents of the Confed capital on Bulova. It has glass replicas of over 300 of the planet's original native plants. The park also features a soundtrack of galactically-renowned theremin artist Maestro Tvox performing his interpretation of the sounds of the original native animals. Due to the delicate nature of the park children must always be attended. Shoes are not allowed in the park because they may track filth in. Unfortunately, shedding shoes does not save this park from the shady deals and trades common to parks throughout the galaxy. The theremin music performs that role admirably.

Canon Tuee

Canon Tuee is the Minor Janthrol of Raluria. This is an honorific title that the Tuee Family has tried to suppress after the population executed all Janthrols in the Janthrol Death March of 5763.

ced

See cedrick.

cedrick

Official currency of the Confed.

celestial algae

Tiny plants grown in zero-g farms where no pesticides are needed, celestial algae is favored for its purity, vitamin content, and fibrous composition. Celestial algae blows through your colon like a Simoldon thunderstorm. Ships with close quarters are well advised to keep celestial algae out of their galley.

Cess

The Cess species most closely resembles a combination of a string mop and a large Terran alligator. They require an unusually humid climate, so rarely leave their home planet of Pilarvane. They are canny businesspeople, ever aware of the best side of a deal, though they can sometimes be tricked into buying goods that remind them of the petroglyphs in their ancestral caves. They can also turn violent rather suddenly, and their sharp teeth and powerful jaws are the subject of countless Mooncurser tales. The trick is to keep them well-medicated. The ship delivering the most DRUGs to their Galactic Consortium trade agent earns an Addiction Bonus equal to the square of their number of UNETHICAL items.

CHER

Cher is a rocky, barren meteoroid that has criss-crossed the galaxy, scaring entire planetary populations as it draws near. Its erratic trajectory remains unexplained. A fanatic cult has arisen with Cher at its center, and pilgrims travel long distances with their murgaleens to touch down on Cher's surface and leave a piece of themselves and their murgaleen behind.

Mooncursers are always mindful of the dangers of Cher and its kin, and are paid a Hazard Bonus of 25 cedricks whenever more than a third of the cargo they deliver to a Galactic Consortium agent is DANGEROUS. In such an event, however, the crew becomes ineligible for any FOOD, DRUG, or RARE bonuses from that agent.

Cher is currently positioned at Galactic Positioning Coordinates [47.7600 N, 122.1909 W]

Chinese Zodiac

The Chinese Zodiac is a mythical collection of animals from a backwater planet called Earth. One's birthyear determines one's zodiac sign under this system. The zodiac runs in a continuous cycle, and thus if your birthyear is not listed below you may add 12 to that year repeatedly to find yours in the table. The signs are as follows:

Rat (1996)
Buffalo (1997)
Tiger (1998)
Rabbit (1999)
Dragon (2000)
Snake (2001)
Horse (2002)
Goat (2003)
Monkey (2004)
Rooster (2005)
Dog (2006)
Pig (2007)

Chunderton

Chunderton is known for only two things: its bountiful production of jank fungus, and a smell several times worse than jank fungus. No known air filtration system can prevent the stench from permeating any ship entering the atmosphere. This explains the popularity of Vela's in the Chunderton asteroid belt, purveyors of Rhinoscopic Hypershooters.

Clavian

Clavians are a silicate species that were originally mistaken for natural formations and later for hard, slow-growing plants. They are now recognized as sentient beings, although they only emerge from hibernation for a brief period every twenty megapargs. Unbeknownst to them (and technically contrary to interplanetary loitering regulations) many of them spend the intervening time on display in kitschy museums and tourist traps around the galaxy. The largest collection belongs to Canary Park and the rotation schedule is strictly maintained.

Clicktalk

A highly compressed communication form pioneered on the first expeditions to the Glattery Frontier. Clicktalk is characterized by clicking sounds of specific pitch and duration. Since the trip to the frontier took 1.7 megaseconds, the colonists were able to perfect their skills of speaking Clicktalk directly (though their children who did not possess perfect pitch generally died young of household accidents when they did not understand their parents' warnings).

Those needing to speak Clicktalk today generally take advantage of a software translator developed by LingualCorp.

CODEX

Data processing is in progress. As the HINT system makes discoveries, you will be notified of any insights you are about to have.

comet bug

Nocturnal insect with electric organs. Comet bugs power their flight through electrical discharge, blazing through the sky like their namesake. A swarm of comet bugs can be a spectacular sight on a warm spring evening, but be sure to observe them from a safe distance. While their discharges normally cause only mild shock upon skin contact, mating comet bugs go supernova and can cause serious injury. Comet bugs have been used as a natural energy source, but isolating the males from the females to prevent catastrophic power surges can be a difficult and painful process.

CONCORDE STREAM

The Concorde Stream was the galaxy's first highway, a space current that provided an acceleration factor necessary to make space travel a reality. While it has drifted widely over the centuries and was briefly twisted into suggestive shapes by the Canary Incident, the planets along its original path are the oldest inhabited and still provide the most prestigious real estate in the system.

Confed

An interstellar coalition of worlds united under a common council of representatives to ensure that nothing in the galaxy is possible unless signed in triplicate. Mooncursers owe a great debt to the Confed, for without the labyrinthian tomes of dreary Confed regulations there would be no succulent loopholes for Mooncursers to leverage to their advantage. Rumors persist that Galvedron the Perspiring, author of the original Articles of Confederation, was himself a Mooncurser, but any evidence that may have supported that theory was lost when Galvedron and his home vanished in the great Tidal Belch of Mudovia VI. Conspiracy theorists sometimes talk of searching the toxic mud pools, but the transmissions to their periodontal chips distract them with noises only they can hear and nothing ever comes of it.

Confed Council

The governing body of the Confed, consisting of nine Thrones and twenty three Pews. The Council is charged with maintaining balance within the Confed. In recognition of this, Mooncurser traders offer a Balance Bonus of seven cedricks for sets of four goods consisting of one ANIMAL, one VEGETABLE, one MINERAL, and one MANUFACTURED item.

CONSTELLATIONS

Data processing is in progress. As the HINT system makes discoveries, you will be notified of any insights you are about to have.

COORS LIGHT

You have completed the challenge of the master of the water.

crystite

Found in the great asteroid belt of the outer rim, crystite is a brittle metal with a crystalline structure. Naturally-occurring crystite, radioactive to a level of two megarads of omnicron radiation per unit, requires a Multiple Use Labor Element to extract safely. Once its halflife expires, crystite can be metabolized by silicates who describe its taste as having metamorphic complexity with an igneous kick. Demand for crystite has surged in recent years in the wake of the Crystite Board's "Crystite Solid" campaign.
