zero-g diamond
Grown in zero-gravity laboratories, zero-g "diamonds" are in all ways identical to genuine diamonds, except for a brittle structure that disintegrates on contact with water or in the presence of certain low and high frequency sounds. Or when exposed to direct sunlight. Or when struck against metals. Or glass. Or jiggling them kind of hard. But they sparkle real good. Wearing zero-g diamonds requires exquisite care and carries the kind of social cachet that only exorbitantly expensive transient baubles can provide.
