parg

See pargeon.

pargeon

The pargeon (parg, if two syllables is simply too much to bear) is the unit of time measurement officially sanctioned by the Confed Council. Of course, it usually takes several pargs for them to accomplish anything, so most agree that they should have sanctioned something longer. The origins of the parg are unclear, mostly because none have yet managed to read through the Confed's documentation on the subject. Some say it's the incubation period of a meteor beetle, but pub wisdom insists it's actually the time needed to pour a complete tamo of beer at the standard tap. Any Mooncurser worth his salt would surely check the accuracy of this claim first hand at the Pargeon Taproom!

Pargeon Taproom

Of all the beverage dispensers in the known universe, only the Pargeon Tap has thus far offered a consistently perfect pour, and therefore a sensibly defined unit of time. It's truly a remarkable piece of machinery! Ground from solid tribonium, the tap's bounty is fatal to many species. On the bright side, is there really a better way to go?

PARK

The person with the strong legs should cross the bridge and follow the trail far up the hill.

The person with the strong stomach should cross the bridge, turn right and hike to the campground.

The person with the fast hands should proceed to the booth at the foot of the bridge. THIS PERSON SHOULD KEEP THE HANDBOOK.

Unassigned crew members may join any of the three journeys.

PERGOBELLUM

Found only in certain highly advanced species, the pergobellum is the division of the brain responsible for perceiving one's environment as music. Pergobellum is also the name given to the planet where the first such advanced species evolved.

Beings on Pergobellum hear different shades of red and sense the tempo of the summer breeze, but are temperamental and notoriously averse to hard labor. Industry and agriculture are nonexistent on Pergobellum, and the population pays handsomely for imported fruits and vegetables to supplement their meager homegrown supplies. Trade agents offer Mooncursers a Harvest Bonus of one cedrick for the first unique vegetable in a cargo bay, two cedricks for the second, three cedricks for the third, and so forth.

Pergobellum is at Galactic Positioning Coordinates [48.7654 N, 122.4858 W].

phenoch

Phenoch is among the deadliest poisons in the galaxy. It is originally believed to have been created in a Benevolent Inc laboratory as a byproduct of the UltraPureJoy manufacturing process. The founders of Benevolent Inc emphatically deny this claim as they do not want to be liable for the extinction of the Moopnar by the Xanjian.

Phenoch is unique among galactic poisons in that no known antidotes exist, though rumors persist of one among the Xanjian. It is made primarily of Eulep root and a secret ingredient that is certainly not extracted from Proxtelian beetles.

Phlogg Dynasty

The Phlogg Dynasty is a hot new entrant in the real estate market, drawing the nouveau-riche in droves. For those who just can't afford to live in the Sphere Dynasty but also can't come to terms with their own station, the Phlogg Dynasty offers an economical alternative. Purchasing property in the Phlogg Dynasty makes a clear, unequivocal statement: "I'm settling."

Photogenic Wars

The true cause of the Photogenic Wars is the subject of great debate among historians. One camp believes it began with a group of attractive co-eds angry at the acceptance of a harelipped woman to their sorority. The other claims that repeated rejections by sorority girls sent a group of the less physically endowed over the edge. Whatever the cause, the Confed was quickly engulfed in a series of brutal wars pitting the pretty people against the unattractive, disfigured, and plain. The devastating deployment of berserker beams at the Holosoap Awards sent models fleeing to hastily-fortified Playalien Magazine bunkers, while the retaliatory strikes against interstellar chess clubs drove science nerds to create the Angel of Death virus. The Photogenic Wars might have plunged the Confed into eternal chaos had both sides not agreed to the compromise of the Bulova Accords.

Pied Piper Serum

Pied Piper Serum creates a chemical link between the subject's frontal lobe and vocal chords. The subject voices all his thoughts aloud and is unable to stop talking until the serum wears off. Originally developed by the Proxtelian military to compensate for their species' lack of telepaths, small doses of the serum have become an amusement at affluent teenage parties throughout the sector. Warning: usage in combination with hallucinatory substances can result in tiresome, unrelenting whining about "munchies" and is not recommended.

Pilarvane

Pilarvane is a tropical planet in the NearZone region of space. It is inhabited primarily by the Cess species, though visitors from many other regions frequent the spaceport and nearby towns. The principal products of Pilarvane are tropical fruits. Traders who wish to leave with these fruits in cargo are obliged to pay large fees for inspectors to verify that the neroptids, local rodents, do not come along for the ride.

PLAQUES

Data processing is in progress. As the HINT system makes discoveries, you will be notified of any insights you are about to have.

Playalien Magazine

Playalien: The Magazine of Heavenly Bodies is one of the most-recognized brands of the modern age. Once at the vanguard of Mooncurser culture with holdings incorporating periodicals, apparel, clubs, and genetic modification centers, the Playalien media empire was one of the casualties of the Photogenic Wars. The galactic zeitgeist shifted away from the exotic holospread models the magazine made famous, forcing Playalien to sell off much of its holdings. When people finally twigged to the notion that they really prefer attractive models over a phrebbnesht lady with a heart-shaped goiter, Playalien once again assumed its rightful place beneath mattresses throughout the galaxy.

PLUTO MENAGERIE

The Pluto Menagerie is a mysterious collection of perfectly preserved creatures excavated from deep beneath the ice of Pluto. How those creatures got there, let alone how they did so before any of them are believed to have existed, is the subject of many hare-brained theories and poorly produced documentaries often aired late at night at the far ends of the telewave selector.

The menagerie is currently on display at [47.7555 N, 122.3479 W]. The usual admission price of eight Augustinian trout is waived for Mooncursers.

Proxtelian beetle

Genetic ancestors of the uplifted Lynchians, Proxtelian beetles are considered a delicacy in most corners of the galaxy. Just don't try feeding one to a Lynchian.

psicrystal

Natural mineral formations from the Quivering Caves of Proxtel, psicrystals are natural telepathic amplifiers. This came as quite a surprise to the Proxtelians, who have no psionic abilities and used the crystals as glittering vermilion street lamps. Since the crystals' special property was discovered, nighttime crime rates in Proxtelian cities have more than quadrupled under the cover of darkness.
