According to legend, the Montevoid uplift project was conceived to genetically engineer a more evolved Proxtelian beetle which could not only speak, but also reason intelligently. This act brought forth an entirely new species, the Lynchians. Of course, the Montevoid disappeared before recorded history, so score one for the evolution advocates.
