Lingual Corp. has cornered the market on obscure language translation software, mainly because no one else had the audacity to kidnap speakers (sometimes the very last ones) of those languages and map their brain patterns into their neural simulators. However, don't let those minor ethical issues trouble you. Except for the occasional mistranslation of simple statements into pleas for food and freedom, their software is generally reliable and an excellent value.

LUCIFER

The Lucifer Expanse (Lucifer for short) is the backwater of the galaxy, a region of space whose magnetic distortions and space-time anomalies confound instruments, forcing captains to resort to more basic navigational techniques using older Vector(tm)-series engines. The key to safely traversing the region is Thanatos IV. Knowing its location vastly simplifies navigation.

The Lucifer Expanse is located at [48.3414 N, 122.3404 W]

As of press time, our correspondent had not yet filed a report from Lucifer. Consequently only these facts about the region, from the last successful report in the fourteenth edition of the Handbook, are known:

1. Thanatos IV, which shares a sector with Tabasqo VII, has no adjacent neighbors in the same sector or orbital level.

2. Arrettsay IV and V are on opposite sides of the Expanse, one orbital level apart.

3. All planets in the eastern sector have the same number of letters and all but the topmost planet are in alphabetical order from top to bottom.

4. Planets in the same sector are either all numbered, or all unnumbered.

5. Roman numerals in a sector's planet names always increase from top to bottom, and never match their orbital level.

6. The planets beginning with R are diagonally aligned with each other and Oberon.

7. The planets at the eighth orbital level are, collectively, 14 fleems from the center of the Expanse and are all closer than 5 fleems away.

8. The planets at the ninth (bottom) orbital level are a total of 17 fleems away.

9. Verga and Freemiller are in the top third of Lucifer.

10. The planets in the NW sector have the same number of letters.

Lynchian

The Lynchians are a race of highly intelligent beetlelike creatures. The Lynchians evolved from Proxtelian beetles in a Montevoid uplift project. Their adopted home system is the Lynchton System.

The Lynchians are specialists in genetic engineering, and through careful manipulation of their genome have created sub-species to perform specialized tasks the general population finds odious, such as undersea excavation, monofilament production, and voting.

Lynchton System

An artificial set of planets created by the ancient Montevoid as a laboratory for uplift experiments on the Lynchians. Each planet was designed as an ideal habitat for a different species, but their regulators failed long ago. Today the few planets that aren't lifeless are colonies of the Lynchians. Be sure to practice your Thornak Descent before you visit.
