Location: Binary Garden (SHREDMART)
Arrival code: STRIPS

Imagine our delight, while scouting for locations, when we came across something called the Binary Garden. And then, on investigating, discovering that this campus courtyard had a copy of the Arecibo message laid out in black and white tiles. Through all of our proposed route changes, there was little question that we would be stopping at this site.

This clue came in the form of 23 strips of paper, each with 76 letters on it, arranged vertically (the shading was just for readability). Below are the 23 columns arranged in random order. This table should copy nicely into Excel, if you'd like to play with it.

The clue was located within sight of the tile installation. A representation of the tiles can be found below the letters.

10: Any second now, HINT suggests you will realize that Qs are a good place to start.

20: HINT has confirmed you're about to decide that each row of letters forms a set of 2-5 words that have nothing to do with each other.

40: Wow - the first word of the top line is WITHERING. How did you almost know that?

50: HINT can't believe you didn't notice that your grid is 23x76, and there is another 23x76 grid of squares nearby.

60: All these seven-letter words in the final string are almost the same - what's different?
